MAVEN Man Challenge #2

For the second Maven Man Challenge the boys take on Chris in a series of competitions. If Chris loses he’ll have to shave his head. Chris is pretty sure that won’t happen.

Bany Timberlake

Right now our very own Chris Bany is dealing with some life decisions. We pulled this video out of the vault to let him know we’re thinking of him.

Chris Bany was so close to being the fifth member of supergroup N’Sync but apparently Lou Pearlman liked the fact that Joey Fatone frosted tips were slightly more frosted than Bany’s.

The picture says it all..

And the selection is…

We’d like to thank all the other logos that came out, but the decision has been made. The presentation went well and we’d like to congratulate Candice on moving forward with her brand!

NINE12 Presentation

We’ve been so lucky to get to work on the branding & identity for NINE12. After a few weeks of concepting/execution we’ve put together a presentation which we’ll share with our client this Thursday.

Here’s a shot of the slides, all 30 of them in their glory:

Bullet-Time and Perspective Tests!

So last week we posted some cool pics of our trip to the blue screen room to do some test shooting. We’re currently working on a rad idea for an interactive piece on kyle korver’s website. This test footage is after only a few hours of messing around but we’re pretty pleased with the potential it’s shown us. Jake you’re doing a great job so far!! By the way did you close the Ruby Tuesdays account yet???

Some book covers we did for our new friends: Purpose for the Pain.

Ryan demonstrates “The Wheel”

In preparation for an upcoming website Maven Project Manager Ryan Kelly demonstrates the “The Wheel” shooting technique. You should probably have something handy to take notes with.

Maven Man Challenge #1

In our constant effort to both stay in shape and procrastinate from actual work the Maven team embarked on its first official Man Challenge. Today’s challenge: Who can hold up a pair of iMac boxes the longest? The competition was fierce, tempers were high, and in the end there could be only one Champion.

Temporary Business Cards

What do you do when your printer doesn’t have enough time to do what you want? Our new business cards were suppose to have embossing, spot glossing, foil stamping, the works. Unfortunately no printer in town could get them ready in time for Chris’s weekend. So we still ordered those cards but for the weekend we decided to do up a temporary card. So by cutting a few corners we found a way to produce a good looking card in a short amount of time without spending much money. Below is a sample of how they turned out and how we did it:

It’s all Good

A client is opening a small boutique clothing store in Orlando and needed a simple logo. We spent some time playing with some type treatments, here are some ideas we’re kicking around.

More Karaoke-ness from Miami!

This was before Brandon’s epic performance so luckily Kyle didn’t have to follow that beautiful train wreck. Kyle actually did a pretty good job singing this song. Which in the Karaoke world meant it wasn’t nearly as much fun for the rest of us. But I do take some comfort knowing he’ll be pretty embarrassed this video clip is being posted

S2DC and Trashketball Madness!

Thanks to Shawn and Daniel for organizing another great night of Super Secret Design Club. We had another amazing turnout, learned a lot about each others work, and how we can all continue to progress as designers. I’m excited to see us all find better ways to collaborate, encourage one another, grow in our fields, and hopefully in the process help the city around us.

And now on to the highlight of S2DC….

Trashketball is a national pastime here at the Maven office. In this rare video appearance Jake attempts one the greatest levels of difficulty known to the Trashketball community..the double bank shot! She is a fickle lady. Many men have lost their fortunes on her charms and promises of Trashketball infamy. Can Jake be the first to overcome certain ridicule and tame this elusive minx?

Blue Screen Action!!!

So yesterday we had the opportunity to use Full Sail University’s Green Screen Room (that was actually Blue) thanks to Andrew and Jake. We did some test video shots for an upcoming interactive piece on Kyle Korver’s website. The process was a blast and we’re looking forward to playing with some of the HD footage we shot. We won’t tell you exactly what we have in mind but if we can pull it off it’s gonna turn out amazing!

Brandon Avery - “Dirty Diana”

I got the opportunity to go to Miami with some amazing friends and amazing people at Converse. One night upon Kyle’s request we headed to a Karaoke bar with all of about 8 people in the place. What followed was the stuff legends are made of.

After viewing this marvelous video you will be shocked to learn the following things:
1. This is an actual song with lyrics that Brandon was singing not just incoherent noises and pelvic spasms
2. Brandon was sober
3. This was Brandon’s first time doing Karaoke
4. Brandon is not in fact related to Michael Jackson
5. It is possible for someone to put so much emotion into a performance that it will make a grown man cry

Brandon you’re the man!
And just to be truly appreciated here’s a quick comparison to the King of Pop himself.

My first experience Wake Skating

So thanks to my good friends Ian, Daniel, and my new friend, Bill, Kaci’s awesome Dad I got the opportunity to spend some time on a boat and give wake skating a try. To the untrained eye it may look like wake boarding but to the more observant viewer you’ll find the riders feet are completely free from bindings of any kind. It’s extremely intimidating following up guys that actually know what they’re doing. Sitting in the water with a skateboard deck with no wheels just floating next to you, you tell yourself there’s absolutely no way I’m going to be able to get up on this thing. And after a few attempts you find you may be right. But take heart because with encouraging teachers around you’ll be able to dig deep and find the stuff champions are made of. So to all you who doubt the little wake skater in you, I give you this lesson in the triumph of the human spirit.

In Progress

Just incase you were wondering if we ever actually work.. here is some album art that is in progress

Real Work

When it comes down to the nitty gritty, Chris knows how to keep his cool and not get overwhelmed.

New Member to the Team

On Tuesday my sister gave birth to my second nephew. Isaac Maxell David Bryan Best made his grand entry into this world at a whopping 10lbs! I finally got a photo today so enjoy! (Yes my sister and brother in law seem to like long names, but at least Isaac has a gauge to how much trouble he’ll be in depending on how many names are said)

Alastair’s weird…

Alastair is apparently the lead singer of Taking Back Sunday. We don’t believe him.

wearemaven.com….Finally!

Today Alastair finally took a break from his normal routine of haircuts, 2 hour lunches, and lallygagging around town with his wife to actually finish up the website. Thanks tree stump you’re a real pro! We’re pretty proud of wearemaven.com actually. The range in our portfolio, and the actual work looks absolutely incredible!! I’m blown away that I get to work with such talent. The site should serve us more than well to generate some early interest in Maven. Shout outs to Shawn, Anna, Jeremy, Hendo, and JonPaul for partnering with us, we’ll do our best to keep food in your mouths, just stick to the Wendy’s dollar menu.

Special thanks to Tim for working on the browser cross compatibility. So Corey you can thank him because I think you’re the only person left who’s using internet explorer 6.

By the way, thank you for finding our blog and clicking on our cool button, bookmark this thing and check back often to be filled in on the latest happening at the Maven offices. Listen friends we take our blog very seriously and can assure you our committment is to update you with only the most vital, responsible, and professional of information. You know classy truth nuggets such as Who won the Office Olympics mattress caber toss yesterday between Bany and Ryan??

And it’s an unfortunate part of life but we expect frequent firings here at Maven. So we’ve added a “How I got fired today” section so that you may share in the hilarity that is the misfortunes of others. I can’t be sure but these seemingly unmerited firings might also have something to do with why we had to add a “How I got my feelings hurt today” section.

So to our family, friends, colleagues, and clients we couldn’t do this without you. Thanks for being here with us, and please don’t be strangers. For my own sanity call or drop in, my only exposure can’t be to these magnificent goofballs I work beside. They never join me in the 4 O’clock dance off and they eat more cheese than I’m comfortable with.

Michael get here soon, we need you in our lives!!

Thanks for reading, now forward out site to 10 friends or you’ll have bad luck for a year.

.Chris

PS
Bany if you’re reading this you can get to selling now.
