Bullet-Time and Perspective Tests!
Posted by Chris | Filed under Current Projects
So last week we posted some cool pics of our trip to the blue screen room to do some test shooting. We’re currently working on a rad idea for an interactive piece on kyle korver’s website. This test footage is after only a few hours of messing around but we’re pretty pleased with the potential it’s shown us. Jake you’re doing a great job so far!! By the way did you close the Ruby Tuesdays account yet???

THANK YOU MELINDA!!

Today we received a care package from one of our favorite people Melinda Van Kirk. We just want to send a special thank you to her for her friendship, her support, and her candy! We would also like to take this moment to say that we love getting candy (hint).

In preparation for an upcoming website Maven Project Manager Ryan Kelly demonstrates the “The Wheel” shooting technique. You should probably have something handy to take notes with.

Maven Man Challenge #1
Posted by Chris | Filed under Life at Maven
In our constant effort to both stay in shape and procrastinate from actual work the Maven team embarked on its first official Man Challenge. Today’s challenge: Who can hold up a pair of iMac boxes the longest? The competition was fierce, tempers were high, and in the end there could be only one Champion.

Temporary Business Cards
Posted by Alastair | Filed under Life at Maven
What do you do when your printer doesn’t have enough time to do what you want? Our new business cards were suppose to have embossing, spot glossing, foil stamping, the works. Unfortunately no printer in town could get them ready in time for Chris’s weekend. So we still ordered those cards but for the weekend we decided to do up a temporary card. So by cutting a few corners we found a way to produce a good looking card in a short amount of time without spending much money. Below is a sample of how they turned out and how we did it:

A client is opening a small boutique clothing store in Orlando and needed a simple logo. We spent some time playing with some type treatments, here are some ideas we’re kicking around.
More Karaoke-ness from Miami!
Posted by Chris | Filed under Random Fun
This was before Brandon’s epic performance so luckily Kyle didn’t have to follow that beautiful train wreck. Kyle actually did a pretty good job singing this song. Which in the Karaoke world meant it wasn’t nearly as much fun for the rest of us. But I do take some comfort knowing he’ll be pretty embarrassed this video clip is being posted

S2DC and Trashketball Madness!
Posted by Chris | Filed under Life at Maven
Thanks to Shawn and Daniel for organizing another great night of Super Secret Design Club. We had another amazing turnout, learned a lot about each others work, and how we can all continue to progress as designers. I’m excited to see us all find better ways to collaborate, encourage one another, grow in our fields, and hopefully in the process help the city around us.
And now on to the highlight of S2DC….
Trashketball is a national pastime here at the Maven office. In this rare video appearance Jake attempts one the greatest levels of difficulty known to the Trashketball community..the double bank shot! She is a fickle lady. Many men have lost their fortunes on her charms and promises of Trashketball infamy. Can Jake be the first to overcome certain ridicule and tame this elusive minx?

Blue Screen Action!!!

So yesterday we had the opportunity to use Full Sail University’s Green Screen Room (that was actually Blue) thanks to Andrew and Jake. We did some test video shots for an upcoming interactive piece on Kyle Korver’s website. The process was a blast and we’re looking forward to playing with some of the HD footage we shot. We won’t tell you exactly what we have in mind but if we can pull it off it’s gonna turn out amazing!

Brandon Avery - “Dirty Diana”
Posted by Chris | Filed under Life at Maven
I got the opportunity to go to Miami with some amazing friends and amazing people at Converse. One night upon Kyle’s request we headed to a Karaoke bar with all of about 8 people in the place. What followed was the stuff legends are made of.
After viewing this marvelous video you will be shocked to learn the following things:
1. This is an actual song with lyrics that Brandon was singing not just incoherent noises and pelvic spasms
2. Brandon was sober
3. This was Brandon’s first time doing Karaoke
4. Brandon is not in fact related to Michael Jackson
5. It is possible for someone to put so much emotion into a performance that it will make a grown man cry

Brandon you’re the man!
And just to be truly appreciated here’s a quick comparison to the King of Pop himself.

My first experience Wake Skating
Posted by Chris | Filed under Random Fun
So thanks to my good friends Ian, Daniel, and my new friend, Bill, Kaci’s awesome Dad I got the opportunity to spend some time on a boat and give wake skating a try. To the untrained eye it may look like wake boarding but to the more observant viewer you’ll find the riders feet are completely free from bindings of any kind. It’s extremely intimidating following up guys that actually know what they’re doing. Sitting in the water with a skateboard deck with no wheels just floating next to you, you tell yourself there’s absolutely no way I’m going to be able to get up on this thing. And after a few attempts you find you may be right. But take heart because with encouraging teachers around you’ll be able to dig deep and find the stuff champions are made of. So to all you who doubt the little wake skater in you, I give you this lesson in the triumph of the human spirit.
